Out of the Box Theatre Company

Out of the Box Theatre Company is a nonprofit community theatre company dedicated to bringing contemporary musicals to the Santa Barbara stage. They strive to make use of local talent, bringing together some of the top performers, musicians and designers in the Santa Barbara community in order to present entertaining, edgy, and socially relevant shows that fall outside of the common expectations of musical theatre. Founded in 2010, Out of the Box has produced a total of 26 musicals in Santa Barbara --22 of which have been regional premieres. Coming up next is Joe Iconis’s Family Album, a one-night-only theatrical concert at SOhO Restaurant and Music Club scheduled for October 27.

Brasscals!

Brasscals! is Santa Barbara’s one-and-only street brass band, whose unique sound gets crowds moving with an explosion of acoustic joy that spans a variety of genres, from funk and jazz to klezmer, Balkan, pop, Latin and even some originals. Brasscals! is a lively group made up of 14+ members, ages 21 to 87, from the Santa Barbara community. The band boasts a wide roster of talent – including woodwinds, brass, a banjo, a washboard, and one bull horn. United by a shared love of music, Brasscals’ diverse, multigenerational membership is what makes this band so special. Their high-energy shows encourage crowd participation to increase the fun factor, break down the barrier between “performer” and “audience” and enliven the masses.
